Barclay’s Life Skills Video - Speaking With Clarity.
Date: 16th September 2014
Summary: This is a short video of a Life Skills graduate Michael explaining the significance of speaking with clarity when being in a job interview. The subject in the video uses “erm” as a common example and an often mistake that people tend to use when answering there questions. “Erm” is a awkward conversation filler. Within this video the subject advises his audience to not use the awkward conversation filler and be confident in ones answers when being asked a question. He does this by giving various examples of what “erm” connotes and the impression it automatically gives when used. He also uses himself as an example saying, “Hello my name is Michael, my name used to start with an erm”.
This makes the audience relate to whatever Michael is saying in the video. In the video only diegetic sound has been used as we only hear his voice. Non-diegetic has not been used in this video. The Mise en scene is a clear set up. This is an advantage to the audience as the Mise en scene is empty meaning they would not get distracted and are able to focus on Michaels advice, Michaels costume is a patterned shirt. This shirt is an ordinary shirt in which guys are most likely to wear in summer. Cinematography that has been used in this video is a Midshot and top key lighting. Midshot was used to capture Michaels face and top half of his body. This is so the audience can see the body gestures Michael uses to explain his points. Top key lighting has been used on as Michaels jaw structure and skin is accentuated.
Impact: I personally found this video useful because Michael uses himself as an example making it easier for me to relate and reminisce on times I have also made the same mistake. This video was useful because he explained the disadvantages of using the awkward word filler as well as the importance of introducing ones self confidently.

Barclays Life Skills Video- How To Use Your Hobbies On Social Media To Get A Job.
Date: 28th September 2015
Summary: This is a short video of various Life Skill graduates explaining how social media can be used as a platform. The first man opens up the video by saying “social media shows the real you”. The second subject who is a woman says, “ it kind of acts as a virtual CV”. The audience are automatically informed on the use of social media and the impact it has. Another subject states that an employer can go beyond that piece of paper and use your social media to really get to know you”. This makes the audience realise that their social media shouldn’t be used for negativity and explicit content. It can also be used for sharing information about any extra curricular course they may be engaged in as well as their hobbies and interests. A blurred Midshot was used in every scene to essentially make each subject the main focal point. This allows the audience to focus on each subject speaking and not get distracted by anything else. Through this video the audience are now informed on how to use there social media, not just for networking but also for other uses which may help and better them for future references. In the video only diegetic sound has been used as we only hear his voice. Non-diegetic has not been used in this video. The Mise en scene is a clear set up. The characters are dressed casually. This has an impact on the audience, as they are able to relate to casual costumes worn as they may have worn something similar. Top key lighting as well as backlight was used on the subjects. Backlight was used to create a halo effect on them. This emphasises that they are in there position to help their audience. Top key light was used to accentuate and brighten their facial features. This also puts emphasises that they are the main focus and the audience should be attentive.
Impact: I personally found this video useful because there were a variety of subjects speaking about various issues surrounding social media and how it can be used to assist a person within the employment process. Different people of different ethnicities were used which the audience are able to relate to. Within the video, the subjects spoke in a formal manner but informal at the same time. This makes the audience relate quickly and also creates a comfortable atmosphere, as they are able to take the video seriously as well as build a relationship with the characters as they were speaking directly at the camera.
